Default Gates of Heaven

I took this photo the other evening, in my backyard. Where most of my sunsets are taken. there was alot of dark cloud around, and just this patch of light streaming through. It sort of looked like the entrance to heaven in a strange way. I like somethings about it, but im not sold on it... This one is straight out of the camera, so any suggestions are appreciated

I like it. Don't know that there's much you could've done to it. I really like the banding of the light on the clouds and the hint that there is something in your backyard that you can't quite make out.

Well done.

Thumbs up

I can kinda see the shot I think you were going for here.
I like the classic composition of the photograph, centered, with the trees drawing the eyes into the sun.

Some things that I can see needing improvement, however, are:
-Centering the sun more in between the trees, as it is, they are slightly overlapping it, which detracts from the composition.
-Getting slightly more sky in, and a little less black on the bottom. While negative space can be good, if it isn't adding anything, move the camera.

Yeh i agree with what you are saying... There is perhaps a little bit too much negative space. Ill try cropping some away....

the only problem with getting the sun more centered is the yard i was in isnt that big. and i was almost against the fence as it was... the funny thing was, i wasnt trying to shoot the sunset, i was taking photos to make a panorama of our pool. And just noticed that sunset at the same time, so i just took three photos. And this one worked the best... But thanks for your comments, ill try a crop

This is the crop i gave it, taking some of the negative space of the bottom and left, to move it slightly into the left third more... Better?

Maybe a little too much off the bottom.
But really, there's never a substitute for framing it in camera, something that I hate. I try to keep myself from cropping whenever I can.
