Default My 1st Photo

Okay, so I took 3 or 4 photos just to test my camera out. I've never used anything like this and was just in awe of all the settings and size I'm not sure what I'm supposed to post here besides my picture so please take into consideration that I am a complete noob.

I took this while sitting on my front porch. I was trying to figure out the focusing on it.
I was focusing on the little bird sitting on a 'leaf' of a century plant.
If I need to add any info, please tell me what you need to know.

I like the crispness of the photo. I guess if the bird was your focus, you should have zoomed closer. I did not see the bird till I read your description.. I thought your subject was the plant... May be with a different angle you could have used the wood or branches, whatever it is, to frame the bird.

I like the colors.

Good luck!!

I realize it's very amateurish but I am learning. Thank you for the tip and the idea of framing

Often the most information can be determined from listing:
The shutter speed: 1/640 in your picture
The aperture: f/5.6 in your picture
The ISO: 200 in your picture
The focal length (sometimes): 300mm in your picture

White balance, metering, and whether or not flash was used may also be relevant depending on the picture But people will often mention those specifically if they think they are relevant.

It looks like you managed to achieve focus where you wanted to, so that's a good start I'm guessing that if you would have gotten closer the little bird would probably have flown off, but getting closer would have helped to get rid of the bush on the left side. You could still try cropping it out of the picture and seeing if that helps bring a little more focus to the bird

Hope you're enjoying your new camera!

Thank you for the advice. Actually, I didn't even try to get closer. It was freezing cold outside and I didn't want to move..lol but I was so anxious to try out my camera. I didn't even think about the bush. These are things I will pay attention to next time. Thanks a bunch!!
