Default Testing the "Light Tent"

Hello All -

I am pretty excited as I post this for C&C. Based on the feedback I got here for a earlier post, I have created a small light tent out of a cardboard shoe box in which this shot is taken.

It was a bright and sunny day and the earings were kept inside the light tent in a shaded area. All natural light from sides. I fired the on board flash from front, but angled and diffused the light using a butter paper diffuser. Grey-White card paper is used as a backdrop.

What do you folks feel? Any specific comments that will make this look even better?

Regards,
Aakash

I think FotoMike is talking about the redish border as well. Maybe another colder colour would work. The photo itself looks excellent!! Do you have picks of your light box?

I think it looks good the only thing I may have tried was hanging the earings by some fishing line or thread then cloneing the thread out in the final image. Also it may just be my monitor at work but the whites in the image look a little gray. You could correct this with a curve or level adjustment.

Very nice job! I like it a lot and think this would be perfect for a catalog.

I did notice a small speck of lint on the bottum of the left hand piece....... (c8

Hi Guys ! Thanx for the comments. This gives me some courage to take a shot at a bigger light tent :-)

@Murtasma: If you are referring to the white backdrop, then it is actually light gray and not totally white.

@Morfasie: This is a replica of the light tent here, just smaller version of it. They have showed it for a big box and I made out of a small shoe box.

@PHugger: I did not notice it till you pointed to it !!! It happens to me all the time ;-)

Thanks again guys. I will now start preparing for my ultimate task - shooting perfume bottles in a bigger light tent !!!

Regards,
Aakash

Ok since the background was light gray your color and exposer look correct. Was this a custom built light tent? Do you have a picture of the light tent?

Hi Murtasma -

I took a few quick snapshots to give an idea of this light tent. The shoe box dimensions are:330 x 190 x 120mm. It is a standard Adidas shoe box.

I made a cut out on 3 sides - left, right and back and pasted butter paper. Over here we call it butter paper, not too sure what would you guys know it as. It is the translucent paper used as base when we bake cakes in oven.

I plugged the backdrop on top side using the plastic pins we use for drying clothes on wire. To stop the backdrop from rolling up, I just kept my cell phone as a paper weight !

If you want to use top lighting, then a cut out will need to be made at the top of box too.

Hope this helps.
