Default Sorry

I'm new at this and just wanted some honest feedback on areas I can improve on. I just snapped this using a Canon Rebel, and played around with the coloring with Picasa. I need to work on my focusing for sure....but what else do you see?

A few different angles might help to make the subject more interesting. The sky is also blown out, so if you are shooting manual you may want to adjust your settings. You may want to post your EXIF data so people can give you more direct advice. Personally, I think if you could angle the shot so you got the flag against an interesting sky, it might come out well. This might not be possible because of location though. Hope this helps.

hey nice shot. i like the idea of just keeping the flag colored. very nice. you're definitely right about the focus aspect; the flag is out of focus. a faster shutter speed maybe to fix that? i'm unfamiliar with the canon rebel but if it has a decent burst mode try using that to get a string of pictures of the flag and then choose one that looks good. i agree with the above reply of the sky being blown out too. and lastly, if i were you i would crop the bottom of the image off up to where the top of that white post won't be in there anymore, and maybe also crop just a bit more off the top of the image as well. nice shot though!

#1 you may want to find a different background that isnt so busy. It conflicts witht he flag. Or you could do somne post processing and blue the background.
Keep playing around with the settings and different angles/ you sure have the right idea

i have a rebel too and i love the thing......

it's just a guess on my part, but had the focus point on the trees in the back.....next time you line up a shot, pay attentiong to the blinking red dot in your viewfinder....it tells you precisely where the camera is focusing.....i know, you said that's what you had to work on....but, it just stops me cold....

another improvement, if you want to shoot this same subject, is to let the flag have some space to fly into and not frame it so tightly on the downwind edge...

have fun!
