Default Greetings from tiny Malta.

Hello there!

Good evening gents, and ladies (are there any?), from the tiny Island of Malta. I am new to this site and I look forward to an enjoyable time as well as a rewarding one for my photography and friendship worldwide.

I am not new to photography but I feel that I have not yet reached the perfection and skill required and therefore i am submitting two photos for you to critique. Feel free to express your opinion.

I thank you in advance and look forward to long hours of enjoyment reading the info, and browising the site.

Sincerely,

volare

I love the shears shot, but for once I have to say it almost feels like the shot is too clear. Kinda feels like the sort of image that could do with a little noise.

Default Welcome!

Glad to have you here on DPS, and, yes, there are ladies here . It's really wonderful to be able to talk photography with people from all over the world, isn't it?

I like the shears. The saturation of the color is great. As for as composition I wish it were a little less straightforward. Something to add a little whimsy or detail would be nice.

volare,

Welcome, and I'll only claim the 'gentle' man designation.

The cat is well-shot. If you do any retouch work, post-processing, those eyes would really shine with some contrast, a little brightening. Context with the shears might add something - curled rusted metal strips, other tools in background out of focus. You have good photos and fans already: go for Post #2!

Welcome volare

I like the expression of the cat, it is quite cute

The colours and rust on the shears are great, as a followup it would be interesting to see an extreme closeup of some detail on it, or a more dyanmic composition, so making use of diagonals in the composition rather than having it horizontal.
