Interesting shot but he is just a tad out of focus still. Unfortunalty I am not a master of telling you what settings to use as I just play with them till I get them right

Thanks for the critique. Unfortunately, under the low lighting conditions in my house, I could not use a wider aperature than what the 18-135mm lens can do. It's f/3.5 at the 18mm focal length but I was zoomed in a little bit so the aperature was even smaller (f/5.6; focal length at 80mm), therefore, the shutter speed was even slower, hence the slightly out of focus subject. I even added a +1/3 exposure compensation and I'm thinking if I add more exposure compensation, it's only going to slow the shutter even more to compensate.
My ISO was at 1600 which is what the D80 will automatically max out at based on what I told it to from my settings. If you're familiar with the D80 custom settings, you'll know what I'm talking about. I didn't manually push it to the highest ISO setting though. Maybe I can try that the next time. How is the noise factor in the picture, by the way? After reading your guys' critiques, I was wondering if getting a faster lens would help in shooting this type of picture? Perhaps the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 prime lens?? I would like to be able to use a wider aperature and a faster shutter so that I can still capture the blur motion from the panning but a sharper subject with a faster shutter. Would I be correct in assuming this OR is there some other trick that I can try given the D80 with a 18-135mm lens? Thanks for everyone's input. I'm still a newbie to photography so any 'tricks' sure would be appreciated. I'm not quite ready to get into post processing using Photoshop or anything like that at the moment so anything I can do in-camera would sure be helpful.
