Default Brother and Sisters

So this is totally new to me. I was asked to take a family photo of 2 sisters and their brother. Not my normal shoot of taking picture of a single model. Lighting up more then one person AHHH!!! RUN!!!

Majority of family photos I see are always so........ you know what I mean? I wanted to go for a candid type photo. I also decided to dull it up. I wanted a calmer type photo and have their expression do all the work for the rest of it.

They are very pleased with the out come. Also taking photos in -24 weather sucks!! I froze.

Let me know what you think and any questions I am glad to provide answers for.

I wish I could get my shutter that small.

You did a great job! I really like this shot. Just a couple of curiosity questions though. Did the flash really do anything in full sun? How far away was the flash? The boys' face is well lit, so can I assume that was because of the flash?

Thanks Dave;

The flash is sitting right beside the girl on the left pointing right at the boys face.

Edit: I actually take that back its not really beside the girl lol. Its a tad more out. Here is one of the test shots. You can see the corner of the light stand in the lower left corner. You can see how his change in position kinda wrecked it.

Nice shot, do you have some more photos?

How did you power the flash?

430ex just uses regular AA batteries. As for triggering I used ebay triggers witch suck. I wish I would of used the $50 towards pocket wizards.

What did you ask the sisters and brother to do while you were taking pictures? Any tips?

Nice shot, trela, very pro result there. Not much to critique, as its nearly perfect. I am also interested in how you get your subject(s) to pose, I've been searching for 'basic poses' but coming up dry so far.

Thanks for sharing.

I have nothing to add here Jason...great shot as always.
Only thing I can say is get your name out there.....you do great work and seem to
at the professional level already. This is really nice. You ever think of fashion photography?

The girl in the middle does quite a bit of modeling so she is no stranger in front of the camera witch made things quite a bit easier. Also had a pretty good idea of what kind of shot they were after. Wupps, I guess we didn't use a bench like planned lol.

To be honest the original photo we had planned didn't involve to much laughing. I demonstrated to them how I wanted them to sit and where. I will have to post up my behind the scene photos LOL. Then I told them to just start lacing up the skates. I want there faces to be visible to the camera but not looking at me. I didn't specify any specific pose or layout I wanted them to do their own thing. I just kept shooting, I said something stupid then the brother cracked a joke about it and I got the photo.

I also used the 70-200mm this way I got some distance away and not all up in their faces.

2 hours before this photo shoot I was looking at the examples of poses saralonde posted up in Examples of Poses witch I felt got the gears in my head going.
