Title: Warrior

My girlfriends brother played in the Oregon 4A Football championships today and it gave me my first real opportunity to try both sports photography and my semi-new telephoto lens out. I use a sigma 70-300 macro/telephoto combo lens. For this shot. It really amazed me how close I was able to get to the action. this is right after they won the championship (really great game by the way). This was a shot of the group celebrating. I did do a bit of a colored monochrome in aperture and then bumped of the shadows a tiny bit to try and faze out some clutter on the outside edges a bit. This style of photography (sports) is a area I'm not used to so it was nice learning about it. Overall I was quite happy and lucky that it was a nice day for football (meaning the shutter speed was fairly fast) I did learn some things I wish I had a slightly more closed aperture some shots seems a bit to narrow in the depth of field. I also would use a bit more iso to speed the camera up a bit more again it was fairly fast considering the weather but there were some action shots that I wish were a bit sharper. Any critique would be greatly enjoyed, I do find it a bit cluttered, thanks for your tips and input!

good thing you bumped it....or i would have never seen it......

you've just about critiqued this shot to death on your own already.....i like it myself....the post work on the color is subtle enough not to grab all of the attention and i find it appealing.....

it's hard shooting into a crowd of people and be perfectly happy with the framing....there's always a disembodied arm or leg floating around the edges...but, the thing i like is the attention the central figure's face draws....it seems to grab your eye and hold it there.....

thanks for sharing

Sorry nobody got to you on this. Did you do anything to his face, or to everything but his face? It looks dull compared to everything else. This seems to me the opposite of the desired affect.

It is certainly an interesting shot. Everybody's roaring and he just wants to ram the camera through the photographer's head. LOL

No I didn't do anything to the face except the color adjustment on the overall image. Also I can see how you can get the idea of how he wants to ram the photographer. believe me he likes having his picture taken he just wanted to look tough for the camera.
