Default Puppy Following Girl

Hey everyone. I'm exploring this new hobby and thought that I would share with you and learn from your insight and experience.

I'm in my infancy in terms of learning the technical side of digital photography but I really love this picture. Any thoughts?

this image gives me a sense of a lazy unplanned afternoon.....

i think your depth of field is acceptable, keeping both the girl and her pup the centwer of attention.....the exposure is nice as the black pup still has detail and nothing washes out....only the crop bugs me a little as it seems a little tight around the girl's head.....

nice image....

I agree with peeper regarding the tight cropping. Since you say you are new to digital photography, if you have some photo software, flip the image from left to right and see how it changes the strength of the image. While the shot you have is a good one, the viewer's eye can be easily led right out of the frame because of the direction of the action. By flipping it, you create a change in that direction, keeping the viewer inside the frame a little longer. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

The goal is always to optimize at the point-of-shoot, but sometimes you may need to do some post-processing to enhance an image.

In this case for example, a shot made under a bright sun produces some kind of haze. You can use the Levels tool in Photoshop to remove the haze. Then you can also use the Curves tool to improve contrast:

I do think it needs abit more contrast as her jeans seem to blend right on in with the field.
