What’s Your Preference?

Hi Folks -

My first test with B&W landscape. Ok, not exactly a landscape, but a vilage house.

I used channel mixer instead of my fav lab color method to convert in B&W.

Do you guys think it works? Any C&C appreciated :-)

It think it's cool. But you could have played around with the contrasts to get the right mood...something a little less bright and more smooth...I sound sane?

i actually like the contrast in this image....your conversion method left tons of detail....nicely done!

Hey guys...thanx ! here is the original color photo.

I will play around with the softness and contrast to create a different mood, but for b&w, was keen on giving a 'rough' look of a deserted village home...!!

First, I'd like to say that I like the color version a lot. I just love the colors, the composition and the softness. But those combinations do not promote a rough and deserted look. Rough and deserted to me translates to dark and brooding in B&W, with sharp lines and contrasts.

So here's another B&W interpretation. First, I worked on the contrasts in color to bring out more detail, using the middle wall as reference. Then I converted to B&W using the B&W tool under new adjustment layer.

@Aetnajojo....thanks for working on the contrast and sharing it. You said you converted to B&W using B&W tool? May I ask if you are refereing to PS CS3?

Yes, PS CS3 Extended. It's also available in Lightroom as Grayscale under Develop->HSL/Color/Grayscale->Grayscale.
