1. Did a saturation layer with a mask.
2. High pass filter to sharpen the hair just a bit, and set blending to hard light.

How does a high pass filter differ to using unsharp mask in Lab mode?

Nicely done. I like how you've gotten really right in close to his/her face. The detail in the fur is just fantastic. Did you find that the sharpening made a huge difference or was the fur already quite sharp before you started?
