Default Desert Clouds

Hi all, I'm new here and am thankful to have a chance to get a few pics up for people to look at and judge. Please, be as critical as can be, within limits, of course. I can only grow and get better at things.

This shot is southwest of Tucson, Az.

Hi Tim, nice to have you join us.
Very nice pan with some beautiful colors. Deserts can have some stunning sunsets! I like the sillouette against the sky, but the composition seems a little centered to me. My eye goes right to the center of the shot and then is pulled from side to side. Perhaps if one side was cropped off a little and the sun was less centered, it would flow better.

I love desert landscapes. These colors are fantastic. I agree with
Saralonde about the centering. And it would be nice if the sun wasn't right behind the main cactus, since its flare kind of cuts into one of the cactus branches. But it's a really nice sunset.

I agree with what Saralonde said here. The colours are beautiful and I really like the silhouettes. The sky is also nicely exposed, which can be difficult with sunsets (making sure you don't wind up with really dark spots). I personally like the flare behind the cactus. I'm 50/50 on the centering thing though because as it is, in this wide format, I don't mind the centered composition. It may benefit from moving it to one side or another, but I wonder if it would lose the colours that are right around the sun.

Thanks All, for the comments. I've messed around with the pictures that I posted here for so long. I've been looking for a place to talk with folks about them. I'm thankful to have stopped by here. I've only got a hundred other questions to ask, but I'll root around here for a while, before asking anything. :-)

Also, and this is bothering me, I put the same opening paragraph on each of the pics I posted here. Now, I feel silly for having done so. I don't want to waste time and be redundant with things. I'm hoping, since my initiation here was so pleasant, that I can post without feeling like I'm so much cardboard. :-)

Thanks again for your comments. I look forward to being able to work with the information and insight that I can glean here in my future works.

Yep, you can feel free to post without feeling, as you said, like cardboard Critiques are often very positive and useful. So even where there are negatives, you will often get suggestions about how that could be changed, either in post-processing or in a different picture. Hope to see more posts from you Welcome again to the forum.
