Default Wine Time

Hi All,

Clicked this one while christmas shopping on the streets, this was on a store window display.

Please give suggestions and suggest improvements for the same. Was my first attempt at through the glass photography, used a 400d with kit lens.

Shooting through the glass doesn't seem to have caused any problem with focusing but it still doesn't strike me as an exciting picture. It is cluttered with a lot of red, gold and translucent objects, some of which bear a degree of relation to each other, set against a background that is tinted pink, green and blue by the lighting.

Maybe it looked more interesting as part of the wider context (is that a foot dangling from the top of the frame) but I don't see much to improve other than looking for a different point of view next time you are shopping there.

Or offer it to Nicole as a "What Would You Do?" shot - I'm sure that would turn up plenty of ideas.

Wulf

ok I have to ask, what type of store was this and what was the total theme? Because of the alchohol and the ballerina foot it got me confused

Thanks Wulf and Windrider for your feedback, will post this in Nicole's "What would you do?" section.

Well the store is Harrod's, one of the world's most famous department stores in London's Knights bridge.

This was setup as a part of huge window that had jewelry as its theme, had maniquins to subject's and background was sloped from top left to bottom right with a see through of inside the store.

The Lights were indeed very harsh at times due to loads of shine and were pink/green and blue in color.

The thing at top right is not a foot but a part of jewelry that was hanging there.

For "WWYD", send Nicole a PM with a link to the picture - ideally at the size above and also a larger version for those who want the details. She will put it in the queue and it will pop up in a few weeks (I know she was asking for more pictures recently but I don't know how many she has stored up right now).

Wulf

ps. That goes for everyone - don't flood her but I am sure Nicole won't mind having a good stock to draw on.

Harod's....The one thing I know I am definitely doing when I come over there.....I love malls for whatever reason...and yes i am male! LOL! I actually panned a vacation around a mall....the Mall of America. Nice shot and expecially through glass. When I first looked i thought the setup and lighting wasn't right then saw it was in a store window.....
Good shot for the conditions....I might clone out the shoe and the bit of jewelry. But thats about it!

Lol, I didn't even notice the foot until you mentioned it.

Maybe an angle from the left shooting everything except for the stuff on the right. Cut it off after the christmas ball on the tray that is sitting below the long stemmed glass.

LOL! I have had things pointed out to me that were directly in the middle of the shot but I was focused on another area and didnt even see it so don't feel bad. It really blends in pretty well until you know its there then its the proverbial "sore thumb" sticking out.
