Default pretty eye

I took this shot of my grandson's eye as he was playing on the computer . I did crop & play a bit in photo studio ,nothing much . I have been trying eye shots for a while and this is I think the best I have gotten so far , any tips in taking this type of photo or in post editing would be great thanks .

pretty eye is right! Nice shot but I can't help but think the eye could be brought out a bit more and sharper....maybe a bit more of a catchlight?
nice shot Snapdragon!

You have CS3? if not you can use the lasso but the selection tool will work better f you have it. As for the catch light try cloning a bit of the shine and expanding it a bit. and sharpen. you can also ever so slightly blur the rest if sharpening the eye seems too much.

i took a stab at it snap....hope you don't mind.
what I did was select the eye and eyelid and lashes and applied an unsharpen mask
just bringing the eye out a bit more.
then I selected just the cornea area and upped contrast and brightness
then I increased the catchlight a bit....
just a quick rework but the idea was to show the difference and let you know how i did it.
there are other ways but however you get to the same conclusion is fine.

i like your original image best......the colors of the iris are beautifully saturated as they are.....

the only two things i see are....1) the blue-ish skin area around the lids...my first shot at that would be to make a color adjustment of the skin only....

the other thing is to maybe to pick your next eye not being so sleepy.....you'll get more of your catchlights then....maybe use the multishot function on your camera and shooting around the inevitable blink........

thanks, i do like what you're trying to do.....
