Default Christmas Dog

Took this tonight for my Mom and thought it turned out pretty well. What do you think?

nice shot. I like the B&W with the lights of the tree and the darker chairs. I think I would have went fro ma different angle putting the dog a bit in front of the chair to lighten up that side of the photo. Maybe about 25 degrees around to the left still getting some of the tree and putting the dog to the right a bit. Its definitely something you'll keep forever since it records a time in your life. As far as technical it can be improved upon some but then again almost all photos can use some work.....
i would love to see the original?

Thank you! Yeah, I see what you're saying about doing it from a different angle, I didn't even think of that at the time, good recomendation.

Here's is the original before any PP work was done to it. I also have an edited color version of this on my Flickr.

is it a place you can revisit or was a vacation shot? if its close by then one question for you is....can you place the dog on the other side of the tree or is there something in the way? I do like the color but prefer the B&W.....

Hi Lance

Very nice conversion from color to B&W. May I know how this was done?

Thanks,

I'm curious as to what you're color to B&W technique is. I ask only because in the B&W version, your highlights below the tree and the tree skirt look a little too bright, while in this color version it's nicely exposed. Maybe just some contrast adjustments after the B&W conversion?
The rest of the shot looks great.

Unfortunately there was some stuff in the way, random cabinets and that ...

I convert the color to black and white by using the channel mixer. I know what you mean about the blown highlights now. Part of me kinda likes it because it makes the subject "pop" out a little more. I'm going to play more with that though, I just wished I would have saved a .psd of the BW, haha! Oh well...

Here's the edited color version too... I ordered prints of both of these tonight because I wasn't sure which one I liked more...
