Unibrow Chevy
This is the original. The snow slipped forward for this great effect, so I turned the lights on and snapped away.

Was making it darker a good idea in order to make it look more like a monster? Does the darker bottom seem like a gaping mouth? Would enjoy seeing other's ideas. Thanks in advance.

quite an interesting effect... I'd go for about half-way to the darkness you gave it, though. I feel that you lose just a little too much detail under the truck... my eye gets drawn back to the dark spot, wondering what's there. For the 'monster' effect, it works pretty well, especially where it brings out the texture on the bumper. It gives it a dark, gritty feeling.

Oni,

You continually surprise. And how lucky are you to have caught this at this stage? If you are a compromising sort, you can have the dark bumper while leaving everything else "as is." Or frame both of them together, I don't know, this is rich material. Way to go!

Making it darker certainly added to the contrast. On the matter though of creating the effect, this is the time where I guess the slight tilt in the original image could have added to the effect (instead of it being aligned!).

I have to agree with the original tilt to the picture. It lost a little something when you straightened it. I can't hardly believe that is snow. Very cool, to be able to catch a shot like that. Something you don't see every day!

This is why such varied responses are so helpful. I also liked the "tilt" but kept reading comments here on straightening your pictures, so I thought I should do that. So what is the magic formula for proper rule following or throwing caution to the wind?

You are all very kind. Thank you.

Oni,

"So what is the magic formula for proper rule following or throwing caution to the wind?"

It's a personal taste thing in general. After that, it's the forum in which your photo will be shown. A tilted horizon for an architect, not so good. For a jaunty Chevy, tilt = character (and there's almost no horizon there, anyway). Personally, I see it as a matter of subject size and story: what's your main feature? Landscape, cityscape, buildings in general need leveling; what's your intention with the photo? When a tilt adds to the point of the story you want to tell, do it. And not to worry - when in doubt, show it on DPS, someone will let you know!
