I think the adjustments you made in contrast are quite nice - just about right.

There appears to be something (reflection or shadow?) under her left eye. Perhaps that is the only improvement I can think of - cleaning out that reflection under the left eye using photoshop.

I could not agree with others, I think the post processing has destroyed some of the details in the hair and created excess contrast as per my taste. But, it depends on how you feel and how you want to portray her.

did i overdo it is a question i ask myself all the time.....in fact, i tend to do several edits of the same image, walk away from the office for a bit and then come back for another gander.....

i believe you made the right moves.....sure you lost some detail in her hair but, by darkening the background you also put more focus on her eyes.....

nice job...

I like it! The first one looks pretty flat. I can see enough detail in the hair and all I need to see. The attention is where it should be and I love portraits with black backgrounds where the head just "pops" out.
Good job!

Each version has merit and at this point it boils down to personal taste. Go with what you like here and not necessarily what the rest of us think is "best."

I prefer the original. I do like what you did with the contrast, but it looks like you added a vignette which took away her left shoulder and the hair behind it.

As has been posted, a matter of taste. I personally like the contrast in the finished photo...seems to make her more alluring and mysterious, also removes the background distractions.

I don't really like the bright lines of light over her left cheek. I would try and retouch that.

rein,

Why not the "Before and After" thread? Or "Post Processing?"
