Question Curves in Metal

I liked the color, and the texture of the metal with raindrops, so I took this shot rather quickly while dashing around Granville Island with friends, scooting from building to building to try and stay dry. It ended up coming out a little abstract, but I still like the shot.

I'm curious, however, whether or not anyone else gets anything out of it; I recognize it /is/ an odd shot (and not at all clear what it is without my explanation which follows), and so I'm tossing it up here for opinion. Should I have captured the entire propeller instead, and skipped focusing on the raindrops on the metal? Etc.

By way of explanation, this is a single blade on an old ship's propeller. The propeller itself now sits on dry land, as an ornament in one corner of Granville Island (a shopping/art district in Vancouver, BC).

hehe... a propeller blade was going to be my first guess.

I like it for the the color, texture, DoF and mood. I think it works great as a picture on its own, and doesn't necessarily need any explanation. One thought I had, though, was that it would work fantastically well as a background for a poster or advertisement, based the contrast and the curves.

I like it a lot.

RainPacket,

There's a commercial selling aluminun welding rod (used in a propeller repair) that's shown so often I recognize the curve and shape. Rarely with water drops on it. Listening to Beatles right now and still can't tell you exactly what it is that draws me into that sound, but drawn I am.

So I'm thinking, as so many photos are a product of all the processes one went through to get: the instinct to shoot, the decision to crop there, and in the rain. This wouldn't draw if it were a whole, easily identified propeller,

Without the explanation, what is it? A shape with color. Explained, it has a history. Has anyone seen it without the story? True test. It's technically fine, as is expected given your portfolio.

Would I hang it on my wall? Proudly.
