Default Foogee Moon

SundayMoon

Pushing an old Fuji S3100 to what may be its limit, and using so much good info (DPS and all), all-time best of early morning shots, out of about 50 I've tried.

In Sport mode, exposure -2.1, f/8, w/b cloudy day, on tripod using timer, 8 AM. My kingdom for a sharper focus . . .

Some crop, second layer with desaturate-and-blur, 50% opacity, overlay.

Without the details on when you took the shot, I could have wondered endlessly on how you were able to balance the exposure for such a moon shot. Never occurred to me that this would be good time as any to shoot the moon.
Thanks for the idea. Nice shot btw.

hsroxas,

Thanks. Out of those 50+ shots, early morning or late evening were consistently the more dramatically colored ones. That Sport mode idea is what made this one.

Sport mode, huh? Never would have occurred to me to try that. I love the colors here. Great shot!

Having never used Sport Mode, or any of the other preset modes for that matter, fill me in here. Sport Mode would have a faster shutter speed? Making it a better choice for a moon shot? As for the early morning or late evening comment. I read somewhere, that is what is suggested for taking pics of Christmas lights. You can get more dramatic lighting & also the correct exposure to see the lights plus the house or tree that is supporting the lights.

Oh, I almost forgot, Great shot!!!!!

Default great use of the moon

I feel that the combonation of tree/moon here is about perfect and it is not an easy shot to make happen.

Digidave,

You won't believe this either: Little Fuji said 1/1500 of a second. Sun had just cleared trees on horizon behind me. This was spot-metered on Moon; tomorrow I'll try reading sky, same settings.

Thanks, All, for encouragement.
