Default Baby Summer Days

Trying my hand at some portraits. I like his little face but don't like how the top of his hat was over exposed. Any tips?

naomilee,

We're about out of time (they're shutting down in about 10 minutes) so quick thoughts: You could lower yourself a few inches to take photo, you could meter towards the vertical side of his hat, or if you do post processing, this photo could be toned down in the hat area. Is this your model?

This is a common situation where there is a difference in exposure between the hat and the face. The light is shining directly on the hat, and the hat providing a soft shadow on the face. Face with a situation like this, I normally will just use fill in flash to provide a balanced light to the two differing exposures.

naomilee,

There's incentive to take lots of great photos! Have a wonderful warm day; it's about 4 degrees here this morning. I got up on the wrong side of the world. Enjoy!
