Took this shot last summer, with my old non-DSLR Sony DSC-V3. Fiddled with it today in Photoshop and used the Orton Effect.
Whatcha think? Original: ![]() Orton:

Guess I should have thought of that! I edited and added the original photo for comparison. Thanks!

alissasanderson,
Is this a one-button fix, or are there steps all under the heading "Orton?" This would probably take 3 or 4 steps in my program. This intensifies and enriches what was already a very fine natural look: is there "Half-an-Orton? I'm OK with things bright and beautiful, and just a little boldness in the living creature area. If they weren't next to each other, I'd see reasons to enjoy both. Were I forced to choose . . . original, just because everything has leaned toward dark lately, photographically. Lucky, bees and butterflies are not enemies. Good shooting.

7 steps. You can vary the intensity, it just takes practice. I've only done a few--this is my 5th attempt. I've wondered if you can "ortenize" just a selection, like perhaps the butterfly only. But I have yet to try it...

alissasanderson,
Anything I select in my OLD Adobe fixit machine, I can apply any and all of what I would apply to an entire photo. I'll bet you can, but a fan of PS would need to run steps with you. Opens up possibilities, hunh?

I think this is a neat picture...I really love how much more the butterfly and bee stand out... I'm pretty new to photography but know a lot about photoshop, so if this seems stupid don't be afraid and tell me, but if I would change anything about the picture I would maybe see if you could brighten up the background a bit more and try to get even more pop from the butterfly

alissasanderson,
Just for fun, went dark to do away with some of the b/g. Probably 6-8 steps, one gave the impression of foggy morning light. So much variety in that rectangle of light. Have some fun.

It's amazing what subtle little changes can do for a photo! Now I have 3 versions, all with different reasons to like them!
