Some probably dont like the foreground trees out of focus and dark but i like this shot!
I think it makes the stump the subject and the light breaking through adds to it.
I love the ethereal feel to the shot.....

Thanks. I thought the foreground trees added a depth to the photo that I really wanted to portray... HArd to tell you're in a forest if I cropped them out...

:^)

Default magical!

this is a truly magical shot. It almost doesn't feel real but i like how other-worldish it is. How much post processing did you have to do?

What stands out is your capturing of the light ray and how it pics out the tree trunk, surrounded and framed nicely by the dark forest tree's. A wonderful expression of what photography should be about. Capturing the magic and with it the heart.

There is some post processing in this image. Mainly I added an orton effect (gaussian blur on a duplicate layer, and set in multiply mode).

Your comment has really made my day!

There is enough knocking people down that i thought my critique would focus on the aspects of the shot which stood out to me. I'm relatively novice, still learning language - but why should that stop me telling you what i think? Its a good shot in my mind - therefore you should know that.

Really a beautiful shot. I am waiting for the pixies to make their entrance.

personally I like the dark and the trees int he front. It's what makes this picture!
Now it just needs some tiny fairies fluttering around and myabe a unicorn!
