Default Street Photography Experiment

This one though, is my favorite. This gentleman was seated on a stool, just next to Starbucks, his rucksack on the ground against the building, eating a grilled sandwich. I saw another tourist, a Japanese guy with a Nikon D80 take his picture. I commented to mom that he would make a great photo (the guy with the sandwich, not the Japanese guy). Mom said "ask him!" So I did. He nodded and I took a picture. He didn't pose, or even really acknowledge that I was there - just went about eating his lunch. I looked at the picture and didn't like it - the angle was off so I stepped back and waited. Again, he didn't even pay me any attention, and when he turned his head slightly I snapped the photo.

Regards & Thanks

Richard

This would make a great start to a series of images. I would love to see this same kind of treatment with a lot of people in different walks of life. It is simple and straighforward and carries with it a feeling of honesty that lets the viewer make there own appraisal.
As for what you could have done better...there are several methods for converting a color image to black and white. Perhaps the best is to create an adjustment layer in black and white and use the provided sliders to make adjustments to the underlying colors. It has the same effect as using filters in black and white photography, though with a lot more flexibility. I think you may find certain adjustments, particularly to the red slider, can make a marked improvement.
Lastly, and it's too late to change this now, I woiuld have loved to have seen this guy looking directly into the camera. I have a feeling there would have been an intensity in his eyes that would have added even more power to this image.

Wow, great shot and adjustments. I thought it was a picture of a painting at first. Don't know if it would improve the picture, but you could try to take out the holes in the wall. Again, you can try and see if it improves that shot. Might not. In Lightroom that is an easy task.

I also love the sepia version. I recommend mailing a printed version (possibly framed?) to the Starbucks with a note. I wouldn't be surprised if the employees there recognize him and could hand it off. Worst case they might hang it up in the shop and get you some exposure.

Default Love this photo!

I like it all the different ways...

The Black & White I would hang on my wall

The Sepia I could see as a framed photo in a movie

The one with the blue in it would look great as a book cover.

The man sort of looks like Hemingway or the way I imagine an older, sober Hemingway would look.

You rock!
