Default New to this site. Please critique my first post here.

This is a photograph of my 6 year old son. I converted the colored image to Black and White and just love the difference it made to the overall feel of this shot. I do like the colored version as well, but there's something about this Black and White version that just seems to have more power or feeling.

I'm certainly no professional but would really love to improve and possibly begin photographing more on a professional level someday. I shot this with my Digital Cannon Rebel XTI.

What suggestions on improving this...................?

I think besides the bright blownout area of the shoulder its a nice photo. The face and hair are bright in areas but not too bright. it is a great shot of the child. Good news is hes yours.....so you always have a model! Try reshooting and adjusting your settings a bit as to not blow out the area so much...better be a bit dark than too light.

Hi and welcome to the group. I, too, am a fan of monochrome images. Pinball made some good points. The lighting is a little flat which does not provide much in the way of modeling facial features with shadows. I don't know how you arrived at your exposure but perhaps your camera's meter was influenced by the darker background and tended to overexpose the image. Try using the spot meter if your camera has this feature. Keep shooting. We are happy to help where we can.

he's adorable.....and something in his expression leads me to believe he's a hand full.....i happen to like the contrast in this image.....the flat lighting that doc is referring to might have happened when you converted to b/w....could you share how you did this?

thanks
