This is just one of many pictures I took while in Mexico.

I think there is to much dead area in the image I think a better compostion would have been to get closer to the child and get on your knees to take the picture unless you want to convey the scene of being small and helpless then I would shoot standing up but I would def get closer to the child since she is the subject of the photograph.

I don't have the opportunity to reshoot this, but what about a crop here & there, a nice layer mask w/blur for dof,
and ......

I know I need to work on my blur layer, but I am just learning about layer masks and all that fun stuff.

I think the crop works much better I would also straighten the image some. The blur is a nice effect but could be tweeked to blend a little better.

I Agree with Murtasma about the crop, works a lot better. Have you tried this image in black and white, that could help to enhance the subject.

cropping in a definate plus. need more work on the blurring. try to feather it in so that there is not such a harsh line where the blurring starts.

Thank you for all of your suggestions.
One more try at this picture. I couldn't get the background to feather in to my liking, so I tried going bw, sepia, + other affects, and settled, for the moment on this.....

Any suggestions on how to feather the faux DOF? With the line of light directly behind her, no matter what I would do, it still looked like there was a curtain of blur drawn to this point.

Guess I will have to keep playing!
