Default Pure Reflection

I posted this in the 'Share Your Shots' thread earlier today, but after a lot of thinking, decided I wanted some feedback on it (so hopefully, it won't get too lost in this forum ).

I took this today. The only post-processing was a 180* flip, and a resize to about 65% so I could upload it. Nothing else. I did use the aid of a circular polarizer to take the photo, but only by virtue of it being on the end of the lens If I'd had it turned, for the other photos I took today, I'd have missed this shot entirely.

Pure Reflection

I think for me, the only thing I might go back & change (which would require me physically going back to the location I took the photo) would be to frame the tree a little more to the left, rather than virtually dead center. I'm actually a little impressed that I managed to keep most of the colors, and the placement of the rocks in the water make for some nice bark on the tree & additional clouds in the sky ...

Anyway, additional thoughts? Comments? Criticisms?

Wow, what a perfect reflection. Great job. I agree with you about maybe tweaking the framing. Also, it's *such* a pure reflection that before I read the title I didn't realize at first that it was a reflection. (And if it wasn't a reflection it would be a bit dark.) You can see the stones under the water, but not until you look carefully. If you do return, you might want to experiment with framing it in such a way that some part of the "real" landscape is in the frame. Then there'll be no mistaking it.

Beautiful reflection. I too somehow missed that this was a reflection. Even as such, it looks like it may benefit from a little lightening and maybe a boost in contrast. I don't mind the framing as the tree is on a diagonal cutting across the frame - it leads my eye well from left to right. Also, like you mentioned, I really like the fact that the rocks in the water give the appearance of bark on the tree.

velvet4269,

In "Share Your Shots" it was the color quality that caught my attention, as if storm clouds approached and that odd lighting covers the land. Well-seen, captured, good place to visit again. Have fun.

If it wasn't for the title of the thread I would have never known it was a reflection!

That's been the biggest "complaint" I've heard thus far - that if it wasn't pointed out, you wouldn't realize it's a reflection; it's too good

I'd considered trying to get some of the real landscape in with the photo, but decided not to because I was on the opposite bank from the tree that's being reflected. I'd planned on flipping the image when I took it, and decided that any of the "real" landscaping would be awkwardly placed - thus distracting from the rest of the photo.

The framing isn't bad at all. I would like to see ti zoomed out just a bit. Also, as someone mentioned, maybe lightened up just a touch...that might bring out the rocks?

I'm really torn about lightening it up to bring out the rocks - I kind of like the way they're really secondary to the photo, adding that additional texture without being over bearing.

And trust me, those are some UGLY rocks
