Rules were meant to be broken. I know nothing of technically correct photography so I can't comment on "rules" broken. From an artistic eye, I would like to see a little bit more of the face. I spent too much time trying to figure out the angle I was looking at to appreciate all of the picture. IMO.

If i had to change something, maybe i would make the "space" between the two fingers bigger so more of the eye were showing...or getting a bit more light.
besides that i dont really have anything i would change if it was my picture. |

I'd have cropped in to get rid of the empty space on the left and given it a slight sepia tint.
