rein,
Among the things a good subject has is size, in proportion to the area of a photograph. This drop is barely visible, partly due also to its dark nature. A closeup (Macro) perhaps with candle behind the drop would keep some of your intention and make subject stronger (bigger with more detail). What you have is eye-catching, with too much dead space. The idea is worth shooting a lot of ways. Try them all.

Hello!
The composition is nice (for what I can see with my dark monitor display (EDIT : CRT display)). The tap/faucet, though could use a little light. If you don't have a independant flash unit, you may try to light it with a handheld flashlight, or, a LED sticker lamp (I love those) : ![]() Thoses babes give powerful yet quite directive [EDIT : I mean directional, freaking French ] light. You can hold them and point them at what you want to lighten up.

I think it could bear a crop to lose some of the empty space to the right of the candle. Overall, I like it, especially the cold light on the faucet contrasting with the warmth of the candle and the use of narrow DoF. However, it is very dark; some lightening might help without losing the atmosphere.

alright i understand, tonight i will try new shots. since its only 6 ft away from my bedroom. ehehe.. i ahve s take a very steamy shower to get that moist effect again.. ehehehe
from u guys i learned a couple 1. subject emphasis (since i said a drop of water not faucet) 2. dead space,(just like when i was studying architecture, dead space is a NO NO, ddnt know it was apllicable for photography too) 3. it dont matter if u shoot 100 shots, the more choices the better and btw. it sucks how evryone of us have dfrent monitor brightness, gamma and contrast settings. it really makes a dfrence on how the photo looks Last edited by rein; 11-14-2007 at 07:38 PM. |

It sucks but that's they way it is. Perhaps one day you'll get your work in a gallery and have complete control over how it is presented but, until then, you have to live with uncertainty about exactly what someone else is seeing when they look at your pictures.
If you can look at them on a few friends machines, that can help (+ it helps get their eyeballs on your shots ).Wulf |
