This was a tricky shot to get! You had a very bright day and a very dark subject...opposite ends of the light spectrum which means high contrast. Looks like you have the parts in the sun exposed properly but the chimp (I think) is too dark. I would look to bump up exposure compensation in this shot or expose the shot for the chimp. If you are familiar with Photoshop you can fix this by creating a duplicate layer and screening it adjusting the opacity level until you think the chimp is exposed properly.

Thanks for sharing! ;-)

Default Gibbon or Howler Monkey?

These guys are really cool!

I agree with lhollimon, in that you had a hard job to do! I think a little bit of photoshopping is going to be the way to go, or waiting until he moves around a little bit.

I often find that you'll get nice shots when they're on top of something, and outlined against the sky....

Unless a flash would freak the monkey out...I wonder if alittle fill flash would've
done the trick?...otherwise I think, Photoshop Image/Adjustment/Shadow...
might of helped or simply adjusting Levels.

very nice shot.

I took ur image and tried it out. If u take it, open it in photoshop, and go to image, adjustments, exposure and bump the exposure up by one I found it to help quite a bit. Any more exposure makes it overexposed. Enjoy.

Also Levels helps. Do command L and the levels window will pop up. Then take the white slider and bring it to the left. It helps also.

you exposed nicely for the whole scene.......but, shooting animals in zoos.....which is where i presume you were, isn't always the easiest thing to expose for because the critters are usually shaded....

i'm not sure what editing software you have, but in cs you have a little tool called shadow and highlights that could come in handy for bringing out the shadow details without blowing the whites....

thanks for sharing...

Thanks again for all of the advice. I made some adjustments using Shadow/Highlight, then I bumped the curves just a tad.

Let me know if you have additional comments.

Thanks,

Todd
