Default What could I do with this?

I took this shot of a drill hole at a blasting site. The hole is about 4 feet deep, and I'm looking down it. I tried to be all artsy and stuff, but I'm not sure I captured what I saw.

This is un-messed with, just converted to jpeg from raw.

I like the small Depth of Field, I think that was a good choice. What kind of thing were you trying to go for though when you saw this? What attracted your attention enough to take this photo? Maybe then everyone will have a better idea of how to help you.

You could PM Nicole and ask her to add it to the "What Would You Do?" queue.

Reading the photo as best I can, I think I would have gone for a slightly wider DoF (smaller aperture) and placed the focal point a bit nearer. That would give a greater portion of the bore hole in focus while making the undistinguished backgound slightly blurred. It would contrast the regularity of the hole with the roughness of the rock, with the break part way down being a point of interest.

I wasnt there obviously, but i think the main focus of this picture is the canal blasted out of the rock. with that being the case a slightly wider depth of field and a focal point more toward the foreground of the photo might have taken the viewer from the top of the canal towards the bottom. To me the interesting part is the canal itself and i would have tried to blur the ground as much as possible while keeping the canal sharp. thats IMO though. lol

I would like to see a version with the top quarter of the frame cropped out. That would be nice, in my opinion.

A Nikon D70s, a few lenses, add flashguns to your taste. Stir well. Serve warm.

I actually took 2 shots of the same hole that day. This one isn't straight, and the focal point is different.
