I appreciate the idea that you were going for a different perspective by shooting at a downward angle, but as a subject, I'm not sure it's particularly compelling. Perhaps empasizing the straight hard edged lines without any soft focus could turn this into a type of abstract shot.

I don't think the "old photo" effect helps. If there was some colour or at least a bit more contrast, there might be interest in the form of the post (although, arguably, it could do with some space round the top) but it is indistinct at the moment.

Not as good as, say, your hydrant picture.

I kinda like it. but it does remind me of a headstone in an old cemetery- which is kind of creepy. I do agree that it might need a little more showing at the top, but that may take away from the creepy feeling. I'm not sure if that was what you were going for though.

StonePost

I increased saturation slightly, decreased the brightness, and increased the contrast. I like this version, though I do like the other one too. Thanks for all the comments.

I like the first one better.
In the second one the color of the moss contrasts nicely with the stone of the post. But the angle of the post doesn't work for me in the color version.

Default Focus

To me, the focus of the photo seems to be on the vertical part of the top stone, which seems to be pretty blank. I do like the gradual increase in moss ?(and hence colour) as you progress down the post, but as you do so, the focus drops off . . .

I do prefer the colour version though, there seems to be a lack of contrast in the first photo.

I prefer the colour version but still find it too cramped at the top and not the most exciting subject in the world. It's a post at a funny angle. Next please...

However, if it is somewhere near you, it could be an excellent platform for the latest assignment. Put an everyday object on top, look down from higher up so the post itself takes less of the frame and you might have a good background.
