Default Peekaboo!

Too much dark wood? Should I crop? Any other suggestions?

Cute shot. I agree with you that there is a little too much dark wood surrounding the child. The headpiece is also 'blown out' and has lost much of its highlight detail. I looked at the larger image in your flickr account and the sharpness isn't as good as I am sure you would have liked it to be. Having said all that, it is still a keeper with a little cropping!

I quite like the way it fades to black at the top, although I would prefer to see the picture rotated so the beams are vertical.

It could live with being cropped more closely to make the child a little larger in the frame. After rotating, you could try trimming down so that the head is at the bottom right intersection of the "rule of thirds" (if you haven't heard of that, just ask).

OK, it took me a while to understand what you meant, Wulf. Found the straightening tool and gave it a try. Is this what you had in mind? Thanks for the help, by the way. You guys are making me discover photoshop!!

Yes, although I might have moved the frame a bit lower. In fact, looking at it again, it might work even better to have the child towards the top right, peering out over the top of the door to say "peekaboo!" (putting the eye of the camera at the height of another child).

Below is a quick example of what that might look like, straightened and cropped to a square format.

I get what you're saying, although now, we lose all that "fading to black" at the top of the pic.

Thanks for your imput. Looking forward to the next critique!
