Default Shot of a kitten

I was taking some shots of my new kitten this morning... it was too dark to use my sports mode on my Rebel XTi, so i had to use either portrait or macro.

I am no pro at photography, but i espescially liked this shot....what are your thoughts? It has not been photoshopped yet, so if you have ideas for photoshopping tips please let me know

P.S. The image in scalled down to about 60% of its original size.

Awwww. That is one cute little kitten Really nice and sharp focus on the face. If anything, maybe a square crop would work here to really fill the frame with the little furball Seriously, one cute kitten.

Awe what a cutie. If I where you I would have just turned some better lights on in the room you probably could have gotten a better picture. With such a nice camera I would spend some time reading how shutter speed ,apature and iso relate to each other and get out of the habit of using the auto modes which most of the time work horribly.

I had a couple problems. Space was very limited to actually take the picture, as i just moved into a new house and live in a sea of boxes, and with only 1 light bulb in that room, lighting isnt the best. All i could really do was use my flash, and the only 2 modes that use flash are portrait and macro, so thats what i used.

Is there a way to use flash on any of the manual settings? I tried the AV mode and the image was either too dark, or blurred a bit. If there was i'm sure i could get some really nice pictures with that.

How cute. I like The pose of the kitty but the dark (cloth?) material he is on doesn't do justice to the shoot. (But just my opinion, LOL!)

What camera do you use again? There should be a flash exposer compensation somewhere with in the Av mode to tune down the flash.

this little guy reminds me of my chaz when he was small....all ears and long legs....

i have an xt and when i want to use the flash in other modes, i first snap one off in auto....then dial to another more suitable mode and leave the flash open.....on mine it will automatically fire off.....

when in doubt, take a look at your manual......
