Default Winter Flower

Hi guys! Please give me some feedback on this shot. I'm very new to the photography world and attempting to understand all that it entails! C+C would be appreciated! Thank you!!

Hi and welcome to the group. Looks like you have nailed the exposure on the flower. Did you use any post production to darken the background? What lens did you use for this shot? This may lend itself better to a square cropping.

i like the sharpness of the flower and the background somehow help bring out the beauty of the flower. A right side cropping will help the composition.

thanks for the feedback!

the only real adjusting i did post production was blacken the blacks (sorry i don't know the technical name for that). as for the square crop, here's what it looks like. what do you think? i thought that ideally the picture whouldn't be completely centered, although i understand with a square crop, that might be different. if i didn't keep the square crop, would it be better to be off-center? thanks for the feedback!

Since the stem has no base to anchor the flower, about all you are left with is the square crop. I think this works well as a square crop, IMHO, because of the excellent sharpness and tonal qualities. It would be an excellent candidate for a text book image or web illustration. In this case, I don't feel an off-center crop would work as well.

Personally I prefer the original although I agree it wouold be better with the stem in focus.
