Default The Painted Slope

This is another photograph from my weekend trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. The colors and skies were fabulous for photography and I got a lot of great shots ... well, my family and I think they're great.

I really liked the way this particular slope looked like it was painted with stripes of colors.

I agree, it really does look like daubs of paint. I love the colors. You might crop of a bit off the top, since the sky isn't very interesting (though it is a pretty color), and the top right side seems a bit heavy on the blue. The two wispy clouds on the right are distracting, you may want to clone them out. Finally, this scene could benefit from a point of interest in the foreground to balance out the lovely background.

Sort of like this?

It is a different shot of the same slope from a slightly different angle. Unfortunately, the pictures were taken from a maintained overlook. So there isn't a lot of objects to select from for foreground interest.

Thanks for the comments though. Gives me things to think about for the next time.

I love this time of year, the scenery is so beautiful! With the second shot, a little less sky and the hills beyond give it a better sense of depth, but the foreground trees are not as attractive. In the first, the colors are stronger, but there is a little too much sky. I wonder if an aperture beyond 5.6 would have worked better for a landscape, bringing more into focus.

I think it looks wonderful. I prefer the uncropped image better the colors pop more because your not cropping into an area where haze is limiting your contrast. A polaizer or UV filter could help the haze but my guess is you where already using one the haze isn't that bad. Perhaps shooting at a smaller F stop would get a little more depth of feild but I think the depth of field is good where it stands. Where was this taken?

Thanks for the comments. I probably could have stopped down the aperature a bit more. Don't know why I didn't think about that at the time.

The shots were taken on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Blue Ridge Mountains just north of Asheville, NC. I was already using a CP filter. The haze is actually how the Blue Ridge Mountains got their name as it makes them look blue as they fade into the distance. As I recall the haze was originally particulates that the forests gave off. These days it has a much air pollution in it as anything though.

i dont think the haze hurts the image at all until you start cropping in closer.
