Default Portrait of a homeless man + Squirrel shot

Really nice guy. I spoke with him for over an hour. I'd really like some critique and be honest. I'm not going to cry about it.

How about two separate threads? These are quite different pictures!

As Wulf said, it would have been better to post each image to its own thread.

Homeless Man:
Can't fault this image. Great shot.

Squirrel:
Love this shot! Again, I can't find anything that would make it better.

I just didn't want to blow up the forum with a bunch of threads. Thanks for the comments.

The crop is a bit tight on the top (homeless man), but they're both good shots.

Both shots appear to be exceptionally sharp. No EXIF data available. Can you also tell us what camera/lens was used? The man is a tough combination of contrasts that you did well to hold detail and tone. Looks like the light was coming from overhead based on nose and eye shadows. Nice separation from the background. This may lok better in a glossy print as it look a little dark on my monitor.

My thoughts on the multiple postings are along these lines. With over 7,000 members (granted, most do not post for critiques), IMHO it is better to select that one shot on which you really want constructive feedback. Post it along with basic EXIF data and the Medium size flickr image size (make it easy for the reviewer to see the image and data on one page and not have to hunt for it elsewhere.) . Add any thoughts or questions you may have that will direct us to your needs or help us understand why you took the photo. With so many new postings daily, I may only view one image if I see a series of posts from the same contributor. You have a good eye and do nice work. I look forward to seeing more of your contributions in DPS.

nice portrait shot...like the play on the shadows/lighting(natural)...

one comment though - if not for the title, it would just have been a portrait of a man... this may be the result of tight cropping as a forumer pointed out...doesn't give a sense of his being "homeless"...unless the title is just for you to identify the shot and not "title" it...

I was just thinking that this is a much more interesting and respectful portrait than the obviously homeless man with a sleeping bag over his head that was posted a few weeks ago. You're showing us something about who this guy is as an individual. Even if you hadn't told us that you had a conversation with him, it's clear from the image that you entered into his world. He's a man who happens to be homeless--homelessness isn't his entire identity.

I also think it's technically very good, with good sharpness, contrast, and composition.

I also like the first photo. The eyes and the seriousness of his expression do show into his character. I do not think it is cropped too close.
