I really like that. It looks like an ad for candy corn! I love the composition, with the one lone candy in front. Nothing negative to say here!

Yum. Well, short of changing it to Indian Corn with the chocolate-y taste...

No, I really like the DoF in this, and I think that there's a good sense of balance with the amount of candy corn in the background. There's not too much empty space, nor is there too little. When I saw this on Flickr I immediately started craving candy corn, so all things considered, I'd say that it's a pretty darn effective photo.

I wonder what would happen if you shot it on a light gray background instead of white. The focal candy seemed to blend in almost too much. I would like to see a sharper edge between the corn and the surface. Just MHO.

This would be a perfect image to focus stack. How this is done is you take a picture at like F 1.8 or as large as you can go get the background corn to look like and blured but still maintain enough detail to tell they are indeed candy corn.

Then increase the apatrue up to something like F16 since your shooting a macro there is little depth of field now focus on the front candy corn. Use the depth of feild button to ensure the entire front candy corn is in focus. Don't care about the background.

Now you have to images. Throw the out of focus blury one as a background layer then the one with the lots of DOF on top now mask off everything but that one candy corn and BAM!

Matter of fact I'm going to try this tonight you got me craving candy corn Great shot!

Murtasma - I have Photoshop Elements 4 and I do not think I can do masking with it. Does anyone know if/how I could accomplish the effect you are talking about in PE4?

Thanks

if you search google for focus stacking I believe there are some freeware apps or trial software that can combine two images like this with out photoshop.

I too like it, but I think the standout kernel needs more definition. I think this is because the yellow of the standout kernel blends in with the yellow behind it. Perhaps if the white/orange parts were used to contrast the yellow of the standout it would appear sharper, and provide better contrast.
