Default Flowers from the Getty Center

For some reason this one grabbed my attention and was curious if I was alone in that.

Flowers at the Getty

Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1000)
Aperture: f/4
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 200

I really like the sharpness of the flower. I don't see anything wrong with the photo... the flower instantly caught my eye and I didn't want to look away. I think the background really complements the flower and the colors are nice. The only thing I didn't like was the red in the background... but that's only my own tastes. A very nice photo overall.

The flower is nicely sharp and interesting, but the background is a little distracting. Even though the other flowers are blurred, they are the same color in the same lighting so the main subject kind of blends into the background. Do you have any from a different angle that wouldn't have another flower right behind? Maybe a crop to cut out more of the background - tree, sky, building, red thing - would help too.

Beautiful flower, though. Do you know what kind it is? It looks like a purple dandelion.

I think its a great shot. I find when first looking my eyes go from the red in the background up and around to the white buildings and then into the flower and doesnt go away from the flower. I think thats a great shot!

I agree with aadam_21 regarding the flower blending into it's siblings behind it.

Oh and It looks like some kind of Allium (onion/chive/garlic family)

maybe a shot from a higher POV...above the flower shooting down to take away the distraction background - road and building...

For that matter, you could even get really low and shoot up. Could produce some nice results either way.

When I forst saw it, my eyes were pulled directly to the in-focus flower. It took some effort to look at something else. For me, the photo is good, and I like the background, it gives the photograph "placement".

aadam_21: I had to look it up but I'm pretty sure it is Agapanthus, looked it up on Wikipedia for you - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agapanthus

I included 3 more but I think they are much weaker, shrug:

In the first two, I am much more easily distracted from the subject. I don't think the background really works and all the flowers make it hard to focus on just one. The third one is great though. The background is nice and I couldn't look away from the flower. I still prefer the other photo because I think the background gives the photo more character and makes it more interesting but this photo is still awesome.
