i would love to see the original. Seems like a great subject and surroundings but doesnt sit well as a B&W. The rays you are trying to capture seem to make the background a little hazy or bland and flat. Do you have the original? is it a place you can go to again.....

Default I agree with Pinball...

When I first loked at this photo, my mind was busy trying to fill in the colours! I'm imagining all sortso f luscious summer greens, or autumnal yellows/reds in there! I think the reason it doesn't really quite work as a b+W is the lack of clear contrast between the highlights and the shadows.

Just my 2 cents!!

If you could post the original, I'd love to have a fiddle and see if we could make some of the colours really pop out!

Default Morning Rays - Color

Interesting that you guys thought it should be color. Here's the color photo I took. I didn't have one panned out any further. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

I do like the color better.....still the light and the haze or whatevr is causing the haze affect is detracting from the photo a bit in my eyes.....

Default Morning Rays - Color

Well, it was early morning. Perhaps the same photo under full sunlight might bring out some more color? Also, do you think I should pan out and get more of the pond or is the bench fine as the focal point? Thanks.

depends on whats round the bench...you should shoot a few shots at different angles and distances and place the bench differently in each frame to see what shows the best.
Full sunlight might not be the best idea....try a bit before sunset then you should get some good shots....if you do go mid day make sure your camera setting are going to catch the best shot. You risk over exposing and blowing out some of the lighter areas in full sunlight.

I like the color version a 1000x better.

I like the bench as the focal point. I agree with everyone else though - try sunrise, sunset but not mid day.

I disagree, the B&W looks so much better.....great balance of contrast and natural lighting.

Bravo !!

Zoom out - not pan out...
Zooming is for in and out - panning is for left and right...
sorry...my Television Production brain took over for a second....
interesting picture...
