Nice capture. A little soft though. Could be so much better if the eyes were in better focus.

Thank you. I tend to agree with you. I have a very hard time getting super sharp focus in my shots - any suggestions?

For next time: Make sure that the focus area of your camera is on the eyes (if it's possible to select where your camera focuses).

For this time: If you work with this in Photoshop or Elements (or any other similar program), I just had a play around with your photo to see what you could do, and you could try selecting just the eye and sharpening that, and then using a layer mask, adjust the brightness / contrast of the eyes (or any other layer adjustments you want to do on the eyes to really make them pop). That should be able to make the eyes pop more. If you'd like I can post the change here just so you can see a quick fix. Hope that my explanation of the fixes wasn't too bad.

Your explanation was great. Thanks. I'll give it a try in Photoshop... and yes, I can select the focus area with my camera - I'll be sure to check it next time I shoot.

Thanks!

I would personally crop out the side behind the bar where it is over exposed. It draws my attention away from the eyes. Other wise nicely done!

Default Lovely Composition

Good composition. In addition to the innosence there is also mystery or a story to tell. Nice that there is space in front for the eyes to look in to. I would have also included a bit more of the chin if I were you.
But very simple but effective composition, just could not move away from the eyes.
