Default Storm Gate

We had a storm moving in tonight so I headed up to try to catch the clouds. I didn't get the light I was hoping for, but I don't think it turned out too bad.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

PC

Hi,
I had a look at the larger version on flickr as this size was a little small to see the detail in the bottom half of your image. Did you use off-camera flash for illumination there? It is a balanced composition but my eye wanted to go back and forth between the sky and what was happening in the base of the shot. What post processing did you do here?

I really like the intensity of the clouds and the interesting gate/fence in the foreground. The tree on the left seems to lack a little detail in comparison with the rest of the shot, but also adds a little to the dark feeling you get from the clouds. I also like the sprawling little town far off in the distance.

clockdoc, this is a combination of two different shots, but I didn't use HDR. One shot was exposed for the sky and the other for the ground. I started with the "ground" shot which had a nice foreground, but a lighter sky. I then layered the properly exposed "sky" over it and used the erase tool to get the ground back. Does that make sense? Once I had the two I applied a little levels and sharpening, but that's about it.

aadam_21, thanks for your comments and feedback.

Yes, I understand your process. Thanks for the clarification.
