Default Sunset at Condo

I took this from a condo in Florida. What could I have done better?

The sky has really nice colours, and it looks like the sky is reflecting in the water a bit (would that be accurate?). What I think might have been better would be if you would've moved the camera down some to capture more of the light reflecting in the water. Also, you could use that tree to your advantage to give the sky a bit more interest. Things silhouetted against a sunset really look nice.

If you want some tips on shooting landscapes, there's a thread on Qualities for a good Landscape pic, and another on the Golden Rule of Landscape Photography.

I do think that you've made a good attempt at this though And welcome to the forums, hope to see more from you.

prrs4me.

Lesson learned today: find out the photographer's intent before attempting to say anything about a photo. So in that light, if you were going for a silhouette, well done. If you wanted to show the area (including the water feature), metering below the horizon next time may give you both that beautiful sky AND parts of the landscape. Also what Nicole said has an influence on your next shot: are you sure the sky is enough, or does it need another interesting object in it? Your sky's dazzling, so you'd have to decide that for yourself. Also ask yourself on every photo: has this been done before, and how will mine be different? If you are practicing, this is really good, as far as the smallish sample shows. The more data you give, camera used, camera settings, time of day, your intent all help members better advise you how to be the best photographer ever. Or feel like that, anyway. More info, lucky Florida person! Shoot on.

prrs4me,

Are you posting through flickr?

How to Post Pictures in Assignment Threads Using Flickr - 12-04-2006, 09:52 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To post a picture in comments, follow these instructions:

1. you need to be a member of flickr. You can sign up at the top of each flickr page. Flickr is a photo sharing site that lets you upload your shots and then share them.

2. upload the photo you want to share with us to your flickr account.

3. go to the photo's page - click on the 'all sizes' tab.

4. Choose the 'small' or 'medium' tab (if you choose the large one it makes the page too slow to load for some of our DPS readers who are on slower connections and it won't fit into our design as well).

5. Under your picture you'll see it says 'Copy and paste this HTML into your webpage' - copy the text in the box under this.

6. Paste that text into the 'reply' box in the assignment thread that you wish to participate in. Feel free to add some words about the image.

7. Press 'post preview' to check it worked and then 'submit reply' to post it live to the forum.

If you go to the actual "Sticky" (yellow box) at the beginning of "Assignments" the "flickr" link will take you to it, painlessly, it's free and you'll have a home for your photos. Good luck!

I agree. If that is water I think the shot should be down more.
