Hi saera,

Welcome to the forum.

Interesting subject and its fun to shoot if pets are so co-operative.

Its bad that you cut off his tail. The overexposed area at the background distracts the attention from your subject. A simple background could have improved this.

Thanks! Pets are very fun to shoot, and easier than most of the people I'm around every day who ignore the camera all together - not that it stops me... Hard to take portraits, which is what I'm most interested in.

At the moment I don't have anything like backgrounds or lights, just a fuji finepix A800. Once I move and have the extra room to get all of these things I definitely will.

Thanks for the output!

Hi Saera, welcome to DPS! Thanks for posting one of your shots.

Beautiful tabby cat. I like the blue collar around his neck that gives a touch of contrasting color. His eyes are lovely, too. Next time try to focus directly on them. Well focused eyes, human or animal, often give life to an image.

I like the lines of the wall in the background, but the light behind him is a little bright like Pala said. The simpler you keep the background, the more your subject will stand out.

Glad you joined us and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your shots!

Hi Saera and welcome to the group. Furry animals are sometime difficult to get in sharp focus with auto focus cameras. Typically the camera looks for a line of contrast on which to focus. If many of your cat shots turn out a little 'fuzzy' that may be the reason. Sometimes you can focus on a higher contrast area nearby and then reframe the image. Another trick is to autofocus and then move the camera slightly towards or away from the subject.

I think if you had swung a few degrees to the right (to avoid the bright background) and left a bit more of the tail, this would have been a much better picture. IT's also a bti soft. But it's a nice phot, for sure.

Welcome to the forums. I've not been here long and I've already learned to pay a lot more attention to the pictures I take...it's great here!

Hello,
Thanks for the suggestions. I was trying to get pictures of him outside, as I have quite a bit of him inside the apartment... Only problem is we live on the third story, which makes it hard to avoid that bright light that you're talking about.

At the moment I do not have anything set up like backgrounds or lights, but I'm in the process of moving and once I'm through with that I'll be working my way towards those things

Thanks! Sounds like a great idea, I'll definitely try.
