Thumbs up Amazing sunset

Sunset 11-10-07

The Sky turned an amazing colour tonight at sunset so much so that most of the neighbours came out to watch it so I grabbed the camera and took a couple of snaps!

I like the shot but not sure if it is too dark or red, but this was really the colour of the sky, amazing

What could I do to enhance this please?

Thanks

I dont know if you have seen the movie The Ring? but this tree and sunset remind me of it. Beautiful shot, good job.

I am thinking for this type of shot it might be better in a portrait crop rather than landscape. Especially if you are going to have the tree right smack int he middle

I think the image would have been even more striking if you had some of the tree trunk in the picture. Or, if you could see the tree trunk against the red sky, is what I think I mean.

Red sky at night...sailor's delight.

The placement of the tree right in the middle makes me feel like it's blocking the beautiful sunset. Like when someone tall sits in front of you in a movie theatre. But the color of the sky is great.

One thing that's helped me as a amateur photographer is to never put the subject dead in the middle. That's easily fixed next time, or even w/ this picture w/ some cropping.

The harder part is the foreground. It's almost 100% dark. If you know how (I don't, maybe somebody could say how in this thread), you could double expose. Do one shot for the foreground, then one for the sunset, and then combine them (with photoshop, I'm guessing).

Thanks guys for the comments!

Can anyone advise on the double exposer that Carzzy88s has mentioned below?

I quite like the tree in the middle with the sunburst but take the advice on re not centring it and will adjust wiht a bit of cropping!

Never seen the fim The Ring, is it good

Cheers

I love the colour in the sky and the silhouettes, but I don't really like the placement of the tree in the center of the frame. I also don't really like the way the tree blends into the horizon.

I think what Carzzy88s means is HDR. It is the process of combining different exposures to create a final image. Normally, one exposure that is underexposed, one that is overexposed and one that is normally exposed are blended together. This allows detail to be seen in the highlights, midtones and shadows. It generally also gives more saturated and contrasty colours. This site is rather informative and also has a guide to making HDR images.

You can bring a bit of the foreground back with a levels adjustment and a layer mask:
