Default Pond at Olana in NY

My first post. I was wondering whether or not I should have cropped the grass out of the bottom of the photo. Any advice is much welcomed.

Hi and welcome to the group. I think the grass adds a base to the image. Please tell us what you did in post processing as the image appears a bit "yellow" on my monitor.

I believe that I was messing around with the color levels and the contrast levels because I had just gotten GIMP. The original was much duller in color.

I don't know that it appears yellow on my screen but the colors seem really off, like maybe the colorization or contrast is cranked way up. Otherwise it's a nice shot.

The grass is perfectly OK, but, the saturation of green is too high, I would suggest that you play with the levels and make it more natural.

I think the grass adds interest to the foreground and the composition is nice. However, the cyan color cast is way too much. The green saturation will probably be OK if you eliminate the color cast.

The colors look off. Almost radioactive to be honest. I'd suggest toning that down a bit.

Pond

This is the original. I'm going to mess around with the colors and contrast to see if I can come up with anything.

after looking at the original, i can see why you wanted to screw around with the colors to 'liven things" up a bit......go about it again with a lighter hand, because you have the basis for a very nice shot.....

oh, and i agree with doc.....the foreground grass gives a base to the whole composition......

if you have a re-edit, please feel free to share it...

i personally would select the sky and add some interest there and then select the rest and add some there. blus for the sky and greens and yellows in the trees. Maybe even add another layer and do some more specific areas.
its a nice shot and think like the others...the grasses are a nice addition.
