Default Opera House

a lightly photo shopped opera house
auto coloured, cropped and turned up the contrast a bit and layered a soft light and thats about it

personally i like the tight crop and the deep blue colour of the water, but its probably not for everyone

it is a very intresting building. to me you seem to have lost some detail in the roof of the building. seems like it has blown highlights. nice pic bythe way.

From a technical standpoint I can see a few issues. On my monitor most of the roof is blown out, and the shadows are overly dark. But those don't bother me so much as that I instantly recognized this photo. Not just the building, the photo itself.

I don't mean to offend, hurt, or discourage you. But to me this is a tour bus shot. No matter how good the composition is, no matter how good the photo, that is something that will always overshadow this particular angle.

One of the things you could do to improve the shot would be to go back on a cloudy day. Sunset or sunrise would be best. Most of the sunset photos I've seen are usually lacking in interest, just a sun and a dirty horizon, and that's never interesting in my opinion.

Another angle would be advisable too. One that's less often seen. That is easier said than done I realize. The Sydney Opera House is a very beautiful and unique building. So nearly every unique and intriguing angle has already been done to death...

As an outsider, I'd much prefer to see the other interesting buildings that Sydney has to offer. You have many I'm sure, you just might not realize it because they're everyday to you.

That's just my two cents, my opinion. So please don't take it to heart.

thanks for your responses, especially about the whhite in the sail being blown out, i didnt notice

as for the originality of the shot (or lack there of)
i wasn't trying to break new ground with it, i was aiming for a glossy, tourism magazine type shot, nothin more, nothing less, i do understand what you were saying and i agree, but thats not what i was trying to do

oh well, i have another shot you may like though if you want something diffrent of the same building

this is one i took earlier this year, when the tennis final was on (the Aus open i think it was)
they had big screens set up in front of the steps and a big crowd was there to watch.
its not the best photo i've taken but interesting and diffrent though

hope you all like it

Brave_ulysses,

Interesting and different it is; says something about the popularity of the place, not just the architecture. Being who I am, I'd wait until late evening and have a couple in the seats. You got the vibrance; I'd let the building be the featured subject again. Always thinking, you did good.

Ahh, well you did succeed in your first image then. I still like the second one better though.
