Default Goofy Girl

Hi Everyone,

I took this picture of my daughter last night and I think it is one of the best/funniest picture I have of her. Other than cropping it to its current form, I wasn't sure what else I could do with it to improve it, or what I could do next time to improve the shot. The one thing I don't like about it is the reflection of the flash off of her swing set, but it was starting to get dark so I needed the flash. Anyways, please let me know what you think.

Sara on her swing set

Camera: Canon PowerShot S5 IS
Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/2.7
Focal Length: 6 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0/3 EV

Hi and welcome to the group. Great shot of your daughter! The reflections are minor and can be cleaned up with Photoshop or similar software. The key here is you got a super expression that makes the picture what it is. Excelent sharpness. Did you have your camera on a setting that accounted for and balanced the exposure of the house in the background? Years ago with flash on film cameras this would have looked like it was taken in a dark cave because many cameras did not allow for ambient light adjustment.

I only had the camera on auto. I am still learning about how to use the manual modes. While I was out with her her I was just taking some quick snapshots and threw it on auto.

I thought her expression in this picture was excellent. It really shows how much personality a 15 month old can have.

I just got my S5 last week so I am still getting used to it.

Nice shot. I'm sure this one will grace your mantle for months to come and find its way into your daughter's photo albums! Since you have the shot and software, I'm wondering how this would look in a landscape mode. Crop out the bottom half leaving only the top half cutting daughter off just below the left hand. Maybe leaving just the top bar of the yellow handle. That would make a lovely head and shoulders shot, eliminate the flash glare, and draw even more attention to that wonderful, fanciful, childish expression.

Yes! Holding a paper against the monitor at that spot to simulate a crop does make an interesting shot. I would also crop out the sliver of rope that "graces" the left side ... but don't crop too close to the hand.

Hope this helps. I would do this for you, but I think you would be prouder if you do it yourself.

Thumbs up

Great Capture. I too have a little one and to get a great photo like this for me is one in a million. He is all over the place, so kudos’ to you for the shot. I like the diagonal lines of your daughter versus the play ground lines, and of course the little personality she threw in.

Priceless
