Composition wise: u've got it!

the only thing that probably distract me the most is the Domino's logo. that was the first thing that I saw instead of the goalie.

other than that, u've nailed it.

Forgive them, Father. But that's another story. One question: sports=action? Without Dominoes the goal is the only color other than yellow strip. Composition, yes. More bodies and a puck, couldn't hurt. More.

perhaps if you crop it tightly such that the logo won't be there. just the goalie and the goal.

drat, can you get him to move just a tad closer to the goal? will be easier to crop that way. I agree, the product placements are a bit of a distraction. It seems the only real way that I could get this to work this is to crop down near the top of the goal to just cutting off the "I" in "It's Dominos" and then pulling in from the right a bit to somewhere around where the blue outline of the goalie box is. I tried pulling in on the left empty space in front of the goalie but that just didn't seem to work out. Maybe try some faked DoF background blur? At least this is if we are talking about editing this one, if taking similar in the future see if you can get just the goalie in focus, the goal or part of it would be an added bonus but I don't think entirely required as it's a fuzzy object with the netting anyway.

It looks quite grey... perhaps the ice confused the lightmeter, did you overexpose to compensate for ice?

If not I guess you can tweak it in photoshop (easier on RAW) but the image will degrade rapidly the more you expose

I think I would prefer the goalie a little further back from the left hand edge - I presume that "a long way from home" is a reference to the gap between him and the goal but a bit more breathing space would be good.

Regarding the product placement, a shallower depth of field might help (although if you took the picture at a distance during a game, I can appreciate that is easier said than done).

Being a complete amateur at photography, I don't see anything wrong with this shot. The billboards in the back are exactly as you would view it if you were sitting in his place. What's wrong with that? As far as the goalie's placement, yea, maybe he could of used a little wider angle shot. But then wouldn't you lose some of the "A long way from home" feel to it? As far as the exposure goes, his jersey is a good white. How would one go about cleaning up the look of the ice without blowing out his jersey? I ask this, because I have a similar problem with some pictures I took at a snow sculpting contest. When I was there taking pics, the snow was..... well, pure as the drivin snow, as they say. When I got home & loaded them onto my computer, the snow looked as if it were a week old(Brownish looking). When I tweaked the "Warmth & Saturation" to get the snow to a purer white appearance, the rest of the pic looked blah. So maybe somebody could suggest a few things here to make that ice look a little better & I could learn how to make my snow look a little better.(hint, hint)

I belive in PS you can use the pen tool to select the areas that you want to change the levels of and then adjust the brightness or other ajustments in those sections of the photo. i believe Vicki did this in An Innocent Moment
