This picture is from January 2004. Coney Island/Brighton beach in Brooklyn, NY.
I printed this for my sister and her husband a few years ago, and they've taken quite a liking to it and keep insisting that I should enter it in some contests. I'm not sure, so I'm posting here. ![]() It's very unfortunate, but I lost the original high-res file in a hard drive failure (yeah, I keep 3-4 back ups now). The highest resolution I have is 973 x 695. This is my first post here. But I'm here reading so often that I actually thought I had an account. But I didn't. Thanks. Overall a pretty nice shot. unlike matthewchj I do not find the little bit of city distracting but there is a lot of dead space in the photo both at the top and at the bottom. I think the the photo looks better cropping off either the top of the bottom bringing your horizen to the third line.

I am still too much of an amatuer to give a very critical review, but I love the shot. The colors are great and I love the silhouettes of the birds. My only thought is to crop the lower part of the photo... and I ditto the sentiments of your sister. It is photo contest worthy.

Another amatuer here, but I love sunset shots, and I think this one is wonderful. The silhouettes of the birds are wonderful, colours are great, but I agree that maybe cropping the shot a little at the bottom to get rid of the dead space could be good?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Sorry it took me song long to reply..was a fun weekend
I knew there was something missing from it. I thought it was the lack of foreground, not enough..something. So too much empty space sounds about right. Gave it a quick crop earlier today, here's the result

If you're cropping the bottom you might as well crop the top to make it look like those birds are filling the sky. It'll get wide but it makes a more dramatic exciting look to the image.

I personally like the city left in. It adds a bit of character to the photo. It makes you wonder if thats where the birds are flying from and why?
I like the crop at the bottom, it filled the void that the empty space created. But am unsure about cropping it off at the top. The clouds have character and it gives the viewer space for the birds to fly into. Just my opinion
