Default My Guardian and his friend...

So about 16 years my family and I took a trip to El Salvador...I was bout 11 years old and I was helping my grandpa with with corn field when he stumbled upon these little guys...It's a set of three figures I took some pictures of the three of them but I don't like the way they came out so I will wait for better lighting to snap all three of them together. But I did get some good close ups of my favorite 2...My "Guardian", and "The Hard Thinker" as I call them.

Tell me what you guys think...

"The Guardian"

"The Hard Thinker"

They're definitely interesting little statues. I'm sure better lighting would help them out quite a bit. I also think that the first one needs a shallower DOF. His friend in the background makes focusing on him a nightmare.

Whats one way I can achieve a better DOF on the 2nd one? I was trying to do it but no matter what I tried the shot was still coming out like that...But yeah I def understand what you are saying.

Shallower DOF for The Guardian and more DOF for The Hard Thinker, would be my opinion. Try to go for manual focussing if your camera permits, because there are too many points where the camera might try to focus in auto mode. In the second shot, keep your aperture very small for greater DOF and play with the shutter speed. Can we have the camera settings for these shots please?

Try using a larger aperture/smaller f-stop. Simplest way to do that is to put your camera into aperture priority mode.

Sure thing...I totally forgot about Manual Focus. My camera will allow me to manually focus, so I will def try that. When you say small aperture you mean a higher "F" number right? Here is the info you asked for...

Guardian...

Thinker...

F/2.8 is very larger aperture, resulting in too shallow DOF in the second shot. Try making it F/8, go to aperture priority mode and take the shot in a tripod. You must have used it, since the shutter speed recorded is 3.25 sec. But definitely manual focus.
